BBBCO Half Term Sports

Bromley By Bow Community Organisation (BBBCO) has launched their exciting new half term project as part of our build up to the 2012 Olympic games.

Supported by Tower Hamlets Youth Inclusion Programme (YISP), BBBCO will reach out to young students of various local primary schools to take part in their own mini winter Olympics over the half term break with a view to continue the activities in the run up to the opening games if the Olympics. The project will offer a variety of FREE Olympics sports over the half term period Including Basketball, Table Tennis, Hockey and Athletics for 7 to 13 year olds with a view to add New Olympics sports to its programme over the course of the coming months.

Naz Hussain, Chair of BBBCO said “this is a fantastic initiative for local young people to get involved in Olympics sports at an age where we could potentially not only discover a future gold medalist but also inspire more young people to get involved in a variety of different sports. To kick off such a project over the half term means that whilst school is closed, we will be providing facilities to young people where they have something positive to do at a time when potentially they could get involved in territorial disputes and other anti social or criminal behavior ”

The aim of the project is to use the half term break to gain interest of the young people and then expand the sports BBBCO offers throughout the course of the year. Participants will learn new sports, improve team work, communication and leadership skills and have the chance to compete for their very own Gold medals.

Throughout the half term project over 90 participants attended from the local areas and schools. They learnt many new skills in the various sports offered and were rewarded for there efforts individually and as a team. BBBCO will like to thank the workers and volunteers, Olidur Rahman, Shumon, Nahid, Abdullah, Nazmul & many of the other qualified helpers.

Nasima, Aged 11 said “I enjoyed the different sports and my team won 2 of the competitons, also I made many new friends”
