Beaumont FC face a final thrashing…

Bromley by Bow FC (5) VS Beaumont Athletic (1)

On Sunday 17th August, Mile End Stadium was packed to its capacity with over 800 people from all over the country coming down to witness a great day of football and contribute towards a fantastic & exhilarating atmosphere for people to enjoy regardless of age, gender, race or disabilities. As well as local football fans, neutral supporters and local V.I.P’s, the crowd also included friends and families of both teams. When both teams took to the field, they were accompanied by their own mascots who were young children of various ages along with the Muslim Aid mascot who was dressed as a cat.

In the build up to the final, Beaumont were the hot favourites to win the game having won the Umbro Cup in Manchester the weekend before but Bromley by Bow FC (bbbfc.com) did not seem to be overawed by their opponents and had their own reasons to be confident going into the match after winning the BFA Summer League and also reaching the League Cup Final which will be played in a few weeks.

It wasn’t long after the kickoff when Bromley carved out their first goal scoring opportunity of the match when a combination of a brilliant through ball played by Ollie and the Beaumont defence being caught square, allowed Olivier to have a clear run on goal with only the goal keeper to beat. Having rounded the keeper, he narrowly missed the goal. A few minutes later, Bromley did take a well deserved lead when Marlon finding himself with some space and taking a quick glance to see the goalkeeper slightly off his line and to react with a fine lob that can be said to be of precision and class, leaving the Beaumont keeper rooted.

Midway through the first half the Beaumont keeper was once again called into action when the ball found its way to Bahar Ali after some neat interchange in the midfield area. Bahar’s ferocious shot was saved by the goalkeeper who could not hold on to it leaving the rebound to fall in front of the alert Bromley forward Olivier who latched onto the loose ball to fire in the 2nd goal into the roof of the net and making up for his earlier miss. The supporters and fans drowned the stadium with there roof blowing chants and noise.

It seemed that the second goal stunned Beaumont who could not get into the game with their usual passing and movement. As the game progressed, Bromley grew in confidence and finished the first half very comfortably sitting on a 2-0 lead to the relief of Beaumont who seemed like the whistle could not have been blown any sooner.

In the second half Beaumont made some expected changes to their line up and it was not long before they were attacking on all fronts with some very good plays in the wide areas but Bromley were determined not to give anything away and defended resolutely making sure the Beaumont forwards were not getting any space or time to find their feet. Bromley then broke the play in midfield and made a combination of slick passes to the delight of the crowd who were cheering every successfully completed pass. Beaumont were defending very high up the pitch and when the ball broke to Marlon on the halfway line, it seemed that the Beaumont’s defence could not handle his blistering pace as he ran with the ball towards their goal before comfortably beating the Beaumont keeper and slotting in his second goal of the game and Bromley ‘s 3rd. With 15 minutes left on the clock, Bromley’s guard was slightly down as Beaumont created a rare goal scoring opportunity which they took after a defensive lapse and making the score 3 – 1.

5 minutes later Marlon once again beat the offside trap and broke through the Beaumont defence after a wonderful through ball from Bahar and with his hatrick in mind, he smashed the back of the Beaumont goalkeepers net with a well taken shot and restoring the three goal advantage. Marlon’s hatrick sent the Bromley fans wild with celebrations that ran towards the supporters to take all the applause and show his appreciation. With the game all but sealed, there was still time for another goal which game courtesy of James Hoskyn who latched onto a loose ball just inside the box to fire home Bromley’s 5th goal of the game with virtually the last touch on the game before the referee blew his final whistle. In the end, it was a comfortable victory with a well deserved score line of 5-1. Having been the underdogs in the build up to the match, Bromley thoroughly deserved this emphatic victory. They celebrated their victory with their fans/supporters who were their ‘12th man’.

As always, the Bromley supporters proved to the rest of the community that there are no other supporters like them. The noise level at times was deafening and the chants were as always very imaginative and in humorous taste. They have set the benchmark for other fans to follow but for the time being, there is no other set of supporters quite like Bromley by Bow supporters.
