From the picturesque turf and sofa seats at Leyton Orient to the slick and semi ploughed grass pitch at the Hackney Marsh Pavilion was the rescheduled Champions Cup Final 2012.

Bromley by Bow FC kicked off in fine attitude as Olie and Lee held a string of passes in the middle of the park to unleash William on a mesmerising run down the left flank to the edge of the box were he fired home the ball to the roof of the net in the first 5 minutes. He celebrated in a Balloteli Statuesque style. AC Manor Park did not wait around to restart the game and were testing the slick surface by threading the ball to their front men, who made Drogba-esque turns on Bromley defenders who handled him well. A few scrappy shots re-sprayed the turf but did not trouble the keeper.

Bahar had a hatful of chances against the AC Manor Keeper as Beggs played a few weighted passes to his left peg but his misses from open play tallies him level with one Emile Heskey during the EPL 2008 Season.

Dipon and Sadik slid in a few crucial tackles to intercept the AC Manor break through while Sid and Lee chased the loose balls and restored it into normal play. Sid had an outstanding game and worked his sock off, his unique balance and weaving skills surely replaced the holes in the socks. It was from a set piece outside the box that Bromley got there 2nd and rising high was Defender Imrul Gazi who got a head on it. Some say he is reminiscent of the legendary Gurrah Bhai but yet remains a dark horse to any opposition. He celebrated with some relief and a payback expression to manager Shof after missing a penalty during the weekend BFA League game against Shadwell FC. The comfortable lead was short lived as AC Manor got a scrappy goal from a corner that gave hope before half time which ended 2-1 to Bromley by Bow FC.

The Second Half saw subs Abdal, Fabio and Justin come on periodically to add pace to Bromley’s Midfield and front men as there were chances at both ends to be counted for and against. The game saw periods of individual flare and skill from both teams but it was the Brazilian William who tucked in the 3rd goal and his 2nd as he took on the defenders with a fainted drop of his shoulder to side foot the ball into the net.

The sidelined fans and the distant Hackney Marsh Cafe followers echoed there joy and anthems. They were also joined by the loving Family and friends of Kelvin Brown who also came down to show their support.

But with 10 mins left it was the sheer power of the Manor striker that turned and drilled a slick shot into the bottom corner leaving the Keeper for deadwood. The score was 3-2, but Bromley took the pressure off using the width of the pitch and to the sweet sound of the final whistle as they were crowned Champion’s Cup Winners of a competitive two league competition. Final Score 3-2 to Bromley by Bow FC.

Goal Keeping Guru and Arm Chair Pundit, Mo Miah tweeted @bbbfc “The on/off weather made it difficult for both teams to play to the style that suited them but at times there were more moments of magic than a tin of Quality Street that saw the technical skills of individual players shine through on a damp day, With the slick surface, we still held onto a great deal of possession but this didn’t reflect the end product needed to win comfortably nevertheless it’s a massive piece of silverware and a stamp on my Nando’s Card for the celebratory meal” #WeAreTheChampions #GameWasDench

Bromley by Bow Football Club are sad to report that Kelvin Brown has tragically passed away. He collapsed during a ILFL League Fixture against Mohammeden SC on 19th Febuary 2012 @ Hackney Marshes and was pronounced dead on arrival to Hommerton Hospital. Our condolences, thoughts and prayers are with his family, Friends and everyone else who knew him. He was not only a loyal and valuable player for the team but also our friend and brother. Today is the saddest day in the clubs history. He was a real humble person and a true role model. R.I.P brother, life ended too soon but you left us doing what you loved most…… playing football.

The Bromley By Bow FC Bangladesh squad has been selected and with months of preparation, the anticipation and waiting is now over. Dhaka and Sylhet will be the destinations for our players where the welcome will be warm but the competition intense. Playing competitive football, taking in the culture and exchanging ideas of different practices will make this tour a great experience for both the travelling and hosting parties.

An overseas football tour is the sporting pinnacle of any amateur player’s ambition. Bromley By Bow FC are proud to be able to organise such a trip and give opportunities to turn such dreams into reality for our players. We have been able to put together a squad of home grown, local talent who have been a part of our club from a very young age and they will all not only be eager to win, but also keen to entertain and be delighted to act as ambassadors of the football game in Bangladesh.

Bromley By Bow FC will visit Bangladesh for the first time in its history having previously embarked on successful tours to the USA and Gothenburg over the past year or so. We are proud to take the clubs unique brand of football to Bangladesh, a country where majority of our players originate from. Football is fast becoming one of the most popular sports in the country and we are proud to be able to play our part in raising the awareness of the beautiful game. We know the quality of the players and the standard of football will be very good and realise that our hosts will be eager to put out strong sides to really test Bromley By Bow FC. The first game of our tour will be played in the beautiful capital city of Bangladesh Dhaka. There will await a specially selected eleven who will give as a true test of our football potential and prepare us for the remaining 4 games to be played in the colourful city of Sylhet.

We hope that our team are competitive and successful in winning the games. More importantly our entire party of players, officials and supporters are committed to learning and enjoying from the whole experience by giving a good account of ourselves both on and off the field.

Bangladesh provides the dramatic backdrop for our 2011 tour and concludes one of the most successful years for the club in which we have won a record number of trophies and titles. We are sure that this trip will be an experience of a life time for all our players and managements. It is our hope that this trip will provide each member of the touring party and our host with lasting memories of hard fought football and most importantly, friendship with the people of a country where majority of our players originate from.

On behalf of the members club, it is appropriate that I should close by taking the opportunity to thank the players, management, sponsors and other organisers of this tour for turning a dream of such a trip into reality.

Aims + Objectives of this Tour

We know that football is a universal sport and apart from the competitive side of the game, it is one sport that does so many unique things socially which goes beyond just being a sport. Despite possibly needing a bit more awareness of the game, the sport is arguably one of the most popular games in the country. It brings together people of all different backgrounds and improves the relationships within communities and also improves people individually. Amongst the social benefits of the sport, it is a sport that involves teamwork, personal responsibility, communication, leadership, integrity and is also a tool to divert people from negative activities which include drugs, gang violence and other anti social behaviour. It also promotes better healthy and active lifestyles and improves peoples well being physically and mentally.

As a voluntary organisation that works with adults and young people, we have seen the positive impact the sport has had on our local community first hand. This trip will help further in achieving our aims and objectives.

Acknowledgement:

For Bromley By Bow Community Organisation (BBBCO) to organise a project which involves taking an entire football team to Bangladesh, it requires the whole hearted commitment and support of many individuals and organisations. Without their support and commitment, this project would not have been possible. The Management and everyone from within BBBCO would like to thank everyone who helped make this project materialise. Your contribution both individually and financially has helped make this trip possible. Collectively, we hope that it has benefited everyone involved.

Juniors deliver a Hammer blow to West Ham SC….. Bromley Juniors went into the game with West Ham SC as they were still high on confidence from their victory against ACE FC in the Cup. The game started off poorly as Juniors conceded an early goal resulting from some neat football from West Ham Anchorman Aslam Bhai.

Bromley held there nerve and absorbed the early onslaught, both teams were playing poorly as the ball was just being pinged from one end to the other repeatedly. Bromley continued to pressure the West Ham goal and were rewarded with a free kick on the edge of the box which was deflected in for the Bromley equaliser.

The battle of the midfield continued through to the second half as Aslam Bhai continued to pull the strings in the midfield battling with fellow battle hardened warriors Kwesi and Meaty for control of the midfield. There were moments when the game could have been mistaken for a wrestling match as a good exhibition of flying kicks from both teams were on display from the offset.

Bromley scored the second goal after some neat inter play from skipper Mamunur and the in form Versatile full back Abul Kashim which resulted in Lewis Slotting in the second. The final nail was put in the coffin when Daishaun sealed the deal late on in the half after some good play from long term absentee Prince the Beast and stand-up sit up champion of 2010/11, Ansar Miah.

Restaurateur & Part-Time Botanist, Abdul Commented “ The comeback was inevitable after watching the El Clasico during the weekend the boys knew they had to put a shift in the 2nd half to gain control of the game and to reminisce the scoreline.“

The thrashing of E7 FC (9-1) and the stall mate against a regressive kick-and-run team Shadwell FC (2-2) played no part in the tactical setup against Stepney FC. It was more of a finely grazed line up to counter play the bubbling ground at Weavers Field.

Stepney FC are one of the teams that hold the ball up well and play with great fluency but Bromley by Bow FC pressed off in great style and pressured Stepney into an error as there Keeper and defenders lapsed into each other as Bahar Ali dinked the ball into the net after 5 minutes. Bromley’s lead was short lived as Stepney used the width of the pitch to stretch Bromley’s defence and capitalise from a corner which saw them head in an equaliser after 10 minutes.

Both teams struggled to keep possession of the ball in the first 20 minutes but Bromley started to set the pace and flow of the game after Oli and Dipon started to emulate the passing game that has become a benchmark for their title aspirations. Bahar had a few chances inside the box before the end of the first half as Fabio and Abdul Muqith played through a few Pirlo-esque passes that was signed off by Abdul Hamid striking the woodwork.

Bahar held the ball well upfront and was stretching the Stepney defence to create chances unlike the last game where he took a few knocks from the chest-beating thuggish defenders of Shadwell FC who used their strong arm tactics to gain even the slightest advantage over the little man. Bromley had majority of the possession in the second half and that paid dividend when they led once again as Bahar slotted from close range after Fabio floated the ball from the left side leaving two Stepney defenders amongst the rustling Oak leaves and the Winter mist.

Bromley defended well in the last 10 minutes with Goalkeeper Amin Ali making two delightful save’s tipping over a goal bound shot that was swerving fearlessly and another when he shuffled across goal to make a bottom corner save.

Final Score: Bromley By Bow FC (2) Stepney FC (1)

Sussex’s Open Range Sheep Herder Champion & Goal Keeping Coach, Tuhin Miah Commented “We rounded up the game by showing great possession football and discipline even after losing the lead so quickly. The players showed character holding on to the ball even in the latter stages when the fitness was lacking but we did allow them through the gate a few times to create chances that they didn’t deserve. Once settled our midfield distributed superbly and had created a hatful of chances that we should of buried.”

Bromley Juniors bounce back to show E7 the Exit…

It was all doom and gloom for out of form Bromley by Bow Juniors after the referee controversially awarded E7 an early penalty following a foul by skipper Mumunur Chowdhury that was clearly made outside the penalty box but the referee decided otherwise.

Neither team was able to settle into the game with both teams cancelling each other out. E7 were on the counter attack a few times but the Kwesi Delap’s Offside trap reeled in any threat. Just before the end of the first half against the run of play a 35 Yard belter from Daishaun made it 1-1 with a powerful drive into the top corner.

Bromley Juniors came out strong in the second half as their dazzling skills earned them a penalty which was converted on the rebound by Mukthar Ali. E7 posed no threat to the Bromley tactics and footballing display as they chipped into a 3-1 lead with Wayne putting the ball over the E7 Keeper after a great through ball by Fabio. Celebrations were reminiscent of the famous Cantona goal in 1996.

Super Sub Shakil scored with his first touch to seal the deal in the final 10 minutes as he nutmegged the keeper from a few yards to make it 4-1. Shakil already in the Bromley By Bow Hall of fame and also known as “One Sock Shak” to local residents.

A last minute surge from E7 headed in a consolation goal but it was too late as Bromley Juniors celebrated their win as the Premier League Leaders faced an early cup exit.

Stand in Manager & LBTH Conker Champion, Mamun Chowdhury Commented “The first few minutes we were hanging on a thread but the young players showed great character and worked hard for each other to keep possession of the ball after being 1-0 down. We could of caved in, as you get a lot of controversy in games like this but credit to the players and hopefully we can take this into our league games.”

Final Score: Bromley by Bow Juniors (4) vs E7 (2)
