Bromley take on the UK Championship by Storm..

As the 2007 UK Bangladeshi Championship went underway @ Milton Keynes, teams from all over the United Kingdom crossed many county borders to join the prestigious Bangladeshi Championship. Birmingham, Luton and Milton Keynes were a few to name as Bromley FC represented London alondside Mohammeden who were defending the championship title. Bromley by Bow FC were invited to the prestigious annual championships with Mohammaden SC to represent London in Milton Keyes on Sunday 26th August.

The event was exhausting for a few players as it was a one day tournament. The final saw both teams from London head to head which added an extra spice as it became a derby match. The final was tense and saw few chances for either sides as both teams were disciplined in all departments of the game, half way through the first half Bromley were awarded a free kick near the corner and Abdul stepped up to take it while a few of the Bromley players went up to try to get a header in but didn’t get a chance as Abdul’s free kick arrowed in the top right hand corner of the goal.

Second half was nerve-racking for Bromley as Mohammaden raised the tempo of the game as they were pushing for the equaliser, they had two great attempts on getting it as the first shot on goal was saved by Amin Ali (GK) near the post and the second was a minute away from the final whistle which saw Mohammaden striker one on one against the keeper which saw the keeper prove himself again with an outstanding save, it also landed him with the man of the match award. Bromley win the tournament unbeaten having won 4 games & drew 2. 2007 has been the most successful year for Bromley by Bow FC as they became the Inner London Football League champions and the cup winners by beating Stepney in the final, the club continued their success by reaching the final of the SNT cup and finishing runners up in the BFA Summer League.

2006/2007 season has been a very successful season for Bromley By Bow FC in the ILFL, having won the premier division for the first time in our history and also reaching the cup final to give us a chance for the double is beyond anyone’s imagination. The players and the management have done a tremendous job in keeping up the pressure on the top sides this year and in the end had the quality and belief to go all the way. The final game of the season against Mohammedan decided the championship, it was a winner takes all game. The pressure was very much on both the sides especially with the controversy surrounding this particular fixture. The Bromley By Bow players rose to the occasion and won the match comfortably with the help of the supporters chant’s !!

Reaching this years cup final was no easy task, we had to overcome Westferry in the first round and then Clichy & Shadwell along the way. This is the first time Bromley By Bow has reached a cup final and for some of our players it will be the first time playing at Mile End Stadium. This was to be a great experience for them as well.

The Final was against Stepney FC and also present were the ecstatic supporters of Bromley, who were on the edge of there seats chanting Bromley on and on until the final whistle. The crowd saw a very competitive game with tackles, challenges and chances from both sides, but there was to be a one winner with Bromley lifting the cup on a 2-1 win. Goals came from Bahar Ali and Micheal Begg. The manager, Shofiqul Islam was delighted with the result and with his half time changes that saw the team take the double this season. The day also ended with a full-on reception at a top table restuarant – Dhaka Biriani, which saw the players, supporters and local community members take a look back on an eventful season for Bromley FC, awards were also handed out to the top performing players.
